When not working as a managing partner at Markmel Co., LLC, Mark Allen Hanrahan participates in Ironman triathlons. To date, Mark Allen Hanrahan has completed six Ironman triathlon competitions.

Participating in an Ironman triathlon is no easy task. Unlike other races, which only require a minimum of 12 weeks of training, Ironman races demand at least 12 months of preparation. In fact, professional trainers recommend that people should take two years to properly condition themselves for their first Ironman race.

Ironman organizers suggest that beginners start with a minimum of 10 hours of training per week if joining Ironman 70.3. If joining a full Ironman, people should train at least 15 hours per week. Many athletes find that hiring a personal coach helps boost their confidence. However, it isn’t necessary to purchase expensive training equipment. In fact, beginners will only need some high-quality basics, like running shoes, a swimsuit, a bike, and a bike helmet.
