Prominent Iowa State Cyclones Who Played in the NBA

To date, 29 former Iowa State basketball players have played in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Below are three of the most prominent players.

1. Zaid Abdul-Aziz: The fifth overall pick in the 1968 NBA Draft, Abdul-Aziz played 10 seasons in the league, mostly with the Houston Rockets and Seattle Supersonics. He retired following the 1977-78 season with a career average of nine points and eight rebounds per game.

2. Kelvin Cato: A first-round pick by the Dallas Mavericks in the 1997 NBA Draft, Cato was immediately traded to the Portland Trail Blazers, where he spent the first two seasons of his 10-year career. He was later traded by Portland to the Houston Rockets in a deal involving Scottie Pippen.

3. Jeff Hornacek: A 14-year NBA veteran, Hornacek was drafted 46th overall by the Phoenix Suns in 1986. The 6-foot-3 guard is a one-time NBA All-Star and averaged 14.5 points, 4.9 assists, and 2.5 rebounds per game over his career.
